DCDC Minutes
January 13, 2004, 12:00 Noon
Members Present: Kirk Shubel, Don Wixon, LeAnn Brown, Brad Apsey, Robert & Elaine Phillips, Darlene Dershem, Dave Nisbett, Al Broughton, Hayden Stone, Nancy Barrett, Dave Dean, Lynn Mossett, Kathy Wedyke, & Dan Stone
Guest: Sue Watts
We had a luncheon brought in by LeAnn for $4.00 per person. We ate first, then Elaine opened the meeting.
We discussed our meeting that was held the day before at Eastern Michigan Bank with Jay Swedler from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. He gave us information on ways to help Deckerville with grants for housing, historical preservation, industry,
streetscape, etc. He told us to contact Dale Benish, which is our local EDC representative for more help and information. He also encouraged us to consider becoming a DDA for downtown preservation and development.
The printed minutes were presented. LeAnn made a motion to accept the minutes as written. Seconded by Don. Motion carried. Brad had prepared an annual treasurer's report last month and didn't have a report for this month.
Kathy informed us that she is currently sending out around 120 letters each month about our meetings and inviting them to the next meeting. Our membership as fallen off from 50-60 paid members to 30-40 paid members. It is costing us a lot each month with
little response.
It was discussed to switch to postcards and to send to paid members only, but that does not encourage new membership. Dave Nisbett made a motion to send out our regular mailing for information and cost of annual dues for the 1st and 2nd monthly meetings.
Seconded by Nancy. Motion carried. LeAnn made a motion to send out postcards as meeting reminders to paid members only after that. Seconded by Kurt. Motion carried. Kurt made a motion to pull from the data base and send out information letters
quarterly. Seconded by Dave N. Motion carried.
We discussed signs on Lakeshore again and Kurt appealed to anyone for help on getting someone to return his calls. We need to contact Steve Ehardt or someone like him to help. Our guest Sue Watts told us about the information that she has been able to get
off the internet for grants for downtown development, agriculture, housing, etc. that she has been giving Elaine.
